Intermediate German II
Louise Stoehr
Fourth in the four-semester sequence of online workbook texts for German, intended for use at the fourth-semester level of German language study. The text is written to ideally be used in a flipped classroom, where students are first introduced to new vocabulary and grammatical forms, and practice using this new language in guided contexts, thus helping students develop initial proficiency with the material ahead of scheduled class meetings. This approach assures that more classroom time, either per Zoom or face-to-face, can be devoted to real communicative language use in the classroom. This text was created specially to integrate special topics in German cultural history into the curriculum and does rely on access to the following three books: Die Suche, a graphic novel published by the Anne Frank Haus; Papa Weidt, a children's book written by holocaust survivor Inge Deutschkron; Fritzi war dabei, a youth novel by Hanna Schott that describes the origins of East Germany's Peaceful revolution. The text also relies on access to the following films: Rosenstraße; Sophie Scholl, die letzten Tage; Das Wunder von Bern; Das Leben der Anderen; Goodbye, Lenin!; and the presentation by Pfarrer Dr. Hans-Jürgen Sievers, past pastor of the Evangelisch Reformierte Kirche zu Leipzig (https://youtu.be/16kVSeB-4GU). Worksheets for all these resources can be provided by the author.
